Is that Velvet

Velvet is the fabric of the year. This sumptuous and chic fabric continues to capture our hearts and closets this season.  It’s luxe look and feel manages to straddle the line between classic glamour and easy allure creating options for day and of course being a great choice for evening.

Multifaceted and versatile, velvet is seen in a variety of styles on the runway, from crushed to super soft. Let’s look at some ways to incorporate velvets into your attire:

Gravitate Toward Rich Colors

Velvet fashion at its most sophisticated and elegant is in rich jewel hues. But that’s not to say you can’t find lighter tones that are stylish as well, so do keep your options open.

If in doubt, stick to the deeper shades, because more than likely they’re your best bet for a stunning velvet fashion moment! Black velvet is a classic go-to shade, but don’t be afraid to play around in the jewel department, with deep blues, emerald greens, bold reds, plums, and luscious pinks!

The Velvet Blazer

Suiting made in this plush fabric may sound a bit odd, but it can make for some killer blazers! Add to the sophistication by pairing a velvet blazer with a silk top; you’ll have two luscious fabrics next to each other for a totally rich and luxurious look.  Also, it does not have to be formal, you can totally add a pair of dark denim jeans for a more casual “dressed down” look.

How to Wear a Velvet Dress

You’ll find that velvet is just the thing you were missing from your mini dresses, especially in the wintertime! The velvet dress is feminine with silhouettes ranging from sweet to edgy shows just how versatile the smooth fabric can be.

You can go playful and short with dresses containing velvet ruffles, embroidery, and prints or you can go sleek with all velvet body of the dress. Either way, it adds so much depth and texture to your standard dresses and wardrobe.

Lastly, and most importantly, let the velvet dress be the star of your look. You don’t need to worry too much about accessorizing a velvet dress, because the fabric is a wow piece in itself. Just toss on a pair of cute shoes, grab a sparkly clutch or maybe pair a simple piece of jewelry like earrings or a nice necklace.

If you’re not completely sold on velvet as an ensemble, you can wear velvet in many minimal ways. From booties, hats, belt, and even jewelry, if your style is more towards to a minimalistic.

One of the best velvet fashion accessories is a handbag. It’s an easy way to add a pop of velvet to your appearance. Plus, who couldn’t use a new handbag in their wardrobe?

Also, consider velvet chokers which have resurfaced from the 90s, and now is the perfect time to pull these in to further your involvement with the velvet trend.

If the only velvet you’re wearing is in your shoes and accessories, stick to the footwear and one or two accessories (max!) to add some texture to your looks.

Velvet will always continue to capture our hearts, and there are so many ways you can wear it, so there’s no harm in having some fun and figuring out what looks the best for you!
